The concert set a new audience record with more than 8,000 attendants and nearly 300,000 live on TVE’s La2, making it the event of the year on the island.
Last 25th December, the traditional Christmas concert Puertos de Tenerife took place at the Dársena de los Llanos. The event beat audience records with more than 8,000 people attending in person and close to 300,000 people following it live on La2 on Televisión Española. The event was also streamed on Radio Nacional, the Puertos de Tenerife website and its social networks.
This success is an important ratification of this celebration which was born as a gift from the port to the city and which next year will celebrate 30 years of history. As the president of Puertos de Tenerife, Pedro Suárez, has indicated, “we have already started working to make it even more special and to commemorate such an important date as it deserves”.
Residents and tourists alike had the opportunity to enjoy one of the most special events of the island’s Christmas agenda, which this year paid tribute to two great musical artists, Elfidio Alonso, founder of Los Sabandeños, and John Williams, American film composer.
The audience enjoyed the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra (OST), under the baton of its leader Víctor Pablo Pérez, in the first part of the programme, which opened with the hits from the best-known soundtracks of composer John Williams, such as Jaws, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Indiana Jones and Schindler’s List, introducing as a novelty the figure of the narrator in the voice of the dubbing actor Salvador Vidal.
The second part of the concert was marked by an emotional tribute to Elfidio Alonso, with the traditional Canarian music of the group Los Sabandeños.
The funds raised from ticket sales, together with the contribution made by Foundation DISA, will be donated in equal parts to three non-profit organisations: the inclusive basketball project for children of the Fundación Baloncesto Canaria, to AFES Mental Health and to the Obra Social La Milagrosa Community.
The industrial-looking open-air stage that served as a backdrop for the event consisted of eight 45-foot containers, eight 40-foot containers and another eight 20-foot containers, provided by Boluda Corporación Marítima through its Boluda Shipping division.
