The company joins thirteen other Valencian companies in an initiative promoted by the NGO Formación Senegal (Senegal Training), providing free shipping of solar panels from Valencia to Dakar

The collaboration is part of the Humanitarian Transport program, promoted by Boluda Corporación Marítima within its Corporate Social Responsibility policy

Boluda Corporación Marítima’s shipping company Boluda Lines has collaborated again with a solidarity project through its Humanitarian Transport program, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility policy. This collaboration, alongside thirteen other Valencian companies, is with the non-governmental organization (NGO) Formación Senegal and its project “Una luz en la escuela” (A light at school), sending solar panels from the port of Valencia to the Senegal capital Dakar, where the shipping company operates a commercial line from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

This initiative of the Valencian NGO Formación Senegal “A light at school” aims to convert seven schools in the African Sahel into small electricity sources via solar panels. Thanks to this initiative, children will not only have light at school, but will also be able to take it home to their cabins every day after school in donated rechargeable LED bulbs, thus avoiding the dangers involved in studying by candlelight at night.

During the course of the project, several students received technical training in implementing a solar energy system. On completion they receive a diploma and become responsible for maintaining them and transferring the knowledge received to other schoolmates, thus enhancing work opportunities for other young people.

Formación Senegal head Toni Zamorano stressed that “training is the objective behind all actions we implement, since we believe it to be the only way to prevent migration and facilitate self-sufficiency in these economically challenged populations, where job opportunities in agriculture and livestock farming are constantly under threat from climatic change”.

Formation Senegal is a Valencian NGO working in Senegal to develop school and professional training projects for African children and young people, as well as values education for Spanish children.
