Boluda Lines vice-chairman Ignacio Boluda accepted the award from the Puertos de Las Palmas Foundation, in the 24th ceremony held on 24 may in the Deep Sea room of the Poema del Mar Aquarium in the Gran Canarian capital

Boluda Lines vice-chairman Ignacio Boluda has accepted the 2018 Puertos de Las Palmas Award, in the Socio-cultural category, on behalf of Boluda Corporación Marítima, awarded for their sponsorship of the symphonic concerts organized by the International Festival of Music, Theatre and Dance, Temudas Fest. The 24th edition of this ceremony took place in the Deep Sea room of the Poema del Mar Aquarium in Las Palmas, on 24 May.

The prize, awarded on 25 April by a jury made up of the Puertos de Las Palmas Foundation board of trustees, was thanks to Boluda Corporación Marítima’s collaboration with the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in the last five annual TEMUDAS Festivals. As part of the company’s corporate social responsibility policy, their sponsorship makes it possible to hold symphonic concerts in the Temudas Festival that takes place in the incomparable setting of Boluda Maritime Terminals of Las Palmas in the port of the Gran Canarian capital.

The Puertos de Las Palmas Foundation’s decision was based on the view that the symphonic concerts “have become a first class, high quality event, both in terms of performance, and the original design, drawn from port infrastructure aesthetics “.

In addition, the foundation stresses that “they generate nationwide media publicity and are a prime example of coordination and teamwork across the entire company to avoid affecting port activity”.

Magical seafront setting

Boluda Corporación Marítima collaborates to spectacularly transform its container terminal into a unique outdoor setting made up of industrial equipment such as cranes and containers. The event makes use of about 50,000 of the terminal’s 161,000m2, turning the logistics and stowage area into an attractive opera theatre each year. The stage, the theatre itself and entrances to the space are structured by installing 120 containers donated by Boluda Lines (the comprehensive transport and international cargo management services division), two 80m high, 800 ton post-Panamax cranes to illuminate the space, and all the materials, vehicles and security measures required for this kind of event.

Boluda Corporación Marítima technicians and operators put in days of hard work to transform the container terminal into a stage (designed by local architect Juan Espino), honouring their commitment not to affect port activity during the assembling and disassembling process.

In this annual event audiences of nearly 3,000 have the opportunity to enjoy concerts with well-known repertoires performed by the Symphony Orchestra of Las Palmas, joined by nationally and internationally-acclaimed tenors and sopranos, and accompanied by images of the performances on a giant screen provided by the Corporation for events like this.

In addition, holding symphonic concerts in an industrial setting provides a unique opportunity to connect the Canarian community with its port, and the perfect chance for Boluda Maritime Terminals to open up this type of port facilities to the public.
