The chairman of Boluda Corporación Marítima contributed financially to support the historical research event, organized in Valencia in October 2016

The Universitat de València has expressed its gratitude to the chairman of Boluda Corporación Marítima, Vicente Boluda Fos, for his financial contribution to support the International Conference “The History of the Silk Roads in Spain and Portugal”.

In a letter of 3 April, Universitat de València general manager Juan Oltra expressed the academic entity’s gratitude to Vicente Boluda for his financial contribution towards organising the conference. Writing as manager of this non-profit institution, he underlined his appreciation for the collaboration, “with every confidence of a satisfactory relationship between our respective organisations” he emphasised.

The International Conference “The History of the Silk Roads in Spain and Portugal” was held from 26 to 28 October 2016 at the Faculty of Geography and History of the Universitat de València, to mark the city of Valencia’s  appointment by Unesco as the capital of the Silk Road.

The conference provided an overview of recent research on the subject, and discussed the influence of mulberry cultivation and silk production on Spanish and Portuguese history, with a view to  examining both countries’ incorporation into the international silk routes and making an accurate assessment of the cultural heritage deriving from this. 

Over a dozen specialists in the study of the major silk centres of both countries took part in the event: Laura Rodríguez, from Universidad Complutense de Madrid; Germán Navarro and Ana María Ágreda, from Universidad de Zaragoza; Ricardo Franch and Daniel Muñoz,  from Universitat de València; Joana Sequeira, from Universidade Nova de Lisboa; Adela Fábregas, from Universidad de Granada; Francisco José Aranda, from Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha; Pedro Miralles, from Universidad de Murcia; José Nieto, from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid; Àngels Solà,  from Universitat de Barcelona, and secondary education teacher Félix García Gámez.
