This latest tug boat has just been launched at the company’s Valencia based shipyard

Boluda Corporación Marítima has just celebrated the launch of “Solan”, a 37 metre tug which will be transferred to the Shetland Islands for March 2010, the expected delivery date whereupon the tug will be operating from the Sullom Voe terminal and mainly in the North Sea. This is the United Kingdom’s largest oil terminal, exporting some 25 million tons per year.

This tug boat, designed by Boluda Shipyards, also has a sister ship under construction by the name of “Bonxie”. Both tugs share the same technical features such as the 14 metre beam, the 5.5 metre draught, a speed of 14 knots as well as the fixed 70 ton towing capacity. These tug boats have been specially designed for towing as well as providing port assistance and guidance with accommodation on board for up to six members of crew.

Boluda Corporación Marítima currently has two yards in the port of Barcelona, (specializing in repairs) and another in Valencia (design and construction). The Valencia based shipyard currently has orders in hand for the construction of no less than 20 ships until the middle of 2011.
