The drill is part of the cooperation agreement on fire-fighting drills carried out annually in the port of Valencia
The “VB Soñador”, one of Boluda Towage and Salvage’s Valencia-based fleet, in has participated in an emergency simulation involving a fire in the tug’s engine room.
As part of the drill scenario, a cable overload produces a fire, generating a cloud of toxic smoke that activates the on-board fire alarm system. During inspection one of the firefighters faints and must be evacuated to the dock to receive first aid in a safe place.
The Marine Safety Plan of Valencia Port was activated to carry out the drill, mobilizing the necessary emergency intervention teams: the Valencia city hall fire service, the SEVASA-SAGEP ambulance service, the port police, the Valencia Port Authority emergency control center, and the collaboration and assistance of the tug crew.
The drill made it possible to test the difficulties involved for the various teams to access and work in narrow spaces inside a ship, and reveal the potential complications an evacuation might entail.
Boluda Corporación Marítima participates regularly in this type of exercise which helps to protect the security of its crew and personnel, as well as maintaining port and port water security.
