The company will adapt a bunker barge for the transportation of LNG.

The project will contribute to the decarbonisation of the European sea lanes in the Atlantic and the Mediterranean.

Through Boluda Corporación Martíma’s participation in the GAINN4MOS project, the company is adapting a transport and supply bunker barge for the transportation of LNG, a more environmentally-friendly fuel.

Within the context of the project, which is supported by Boluda and includes the design contributions of the naval engineering company Seaplace, different options for the adaptation of the barge have been considered. The solution that has finally been adopted will see the installation of three tanks on the barge’s upper deck, with the aim of maintaining the barge’s maximum fossil fuel capacity. The engine room will also be modified in order to operate with LNG.
This pilot project also includes the participation of Fundación Valenciaport, Bureau Veritas, CIMNE (International Center for Numerical Methods in Engineering) and the Directorate General of the Merchant Marine.
The Iberian Peninsula, which has 8 regasification plants, occupies a geostrategic position and possesses specific know-how in relation to LNG-logistics, key factors for the project’s development and its consolidation as a European reference in this area.
