The distinction has been imposed by the Secretary of the State of Vatican, the cardinal Bertone.

The president of Boluda Corporación Marítima, Vicente Boluda Fos, has received last Saturday 22th of September  the accreditation as knight of the Order of Saint Gregory the Great, known as Knight of the Pope. This award is given to people who have excelled by their services to the Holy See.

The Pope Gregory XVI created the order in 1831, to award the services of the Italians and Austrians, who helped him to restore his political authority. He did it in memory of the Pope Gregory the Ist, called the Great (590-604), through the brief “Quod Summis Quibusque”.

The order has been updated in 1993, under the pontificate of John Paul the IInd, and with it, recognize people “of proven loyalty to the Holy See that, for reason of nobility of birth and notoriety of its acts or the degree of its generosity, are considered honorable to be awarded by a public expression of respect by the Holy See.”

The act took place in the city of the Vatican, where the Secretary of State the Cardinal Bertone travelled from Castellgandolfo to impose the decoration of Commander to Vicente Boluda.
