Pontemar, a Boluda Towage Latam company providing towing services in Argentina, commissions two tugs from SYM Naval
Pontemar, one of three companies that make up Boluda Towage Latam, the Boluda Towage towing division for Argentina and Uruguay, has recently signed a contract commissioning two tugs from SYM Naval shipyards located in Vilanova i la Geltrú in Barcelona. These two high-tech ships will be added to the towing service in the Argentinian port of Buenos Aires to provide high quality and safety from mid-2020.
For Pontemar, this expansion means major fleet renewal, to meet the needs of its customers who require a service with fourfold higher security, quality and power than current levels.
Pontemar tugs operate in narrow and shallow docks. Their main clients operate containerships on the Paraná-Paraguay waterway, and require an increasingly versatile service to handle their habitual mooring, although they are also called on to assist fishing vessels and medium-sized vessels.
SYM Naval tugboats are therefore custom designed, as the geographical conditions of a river port such as Buenos Aires require vessels with reduced dimensions to perform the manoeuvres safely.
Besides Pontemar, Boluda Towage Latam comprises two other companies: Remolcadores Unidos Argentinos (RUA), operating in Buenos Aires, La Plata, Mar del Plata and Necochea, and Uruguay Tugboats, which provides services in Rio Uruguay and Montevideo.
