The route, which will increases freight transport on the trade route to northern Spain, departs on Sundays, transporting plantain from Canarias from the port of Santa Cruz de La Palma to Vilagarcía, Bilbao and Lisbon
Boluda Corporación Marítima shipping company Boluda Lines has recovered the Santa Cruz de La Palma port stop on the North Line goods shipping route, to transport Canary Islands plantain weekly from the Canary archipelago to Portugal and the north of Spain. The shipment will be made on Sundays in refrigerated containers (reefers), a type of transport in which Boluda Lines specializes.
With the addition of this commercial port stop on La Palma Island, the North Line will ship all types of dry and refrigerated cargo from Santa Cruz de La Palma to Vilagarcía de Arousa, Bilbao and Lisbon, with subsequently calling at the ports of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Arrecife and Puerto del Rosario.
The official inauguration of the port stop on the North Line freight transport route took place in the port of Santa Cruz de La Palma on Saturday 3 March. Representing Boluda Lines were sales and logistics manager Javier García; division representatives of La Palma, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Tenerife and Alicante: Fernando Isidro, José Rodríguez, Carla Socas and Felipe López, respectively; as well as Boluda Maritime Terminals manager Francisco Montes.
Among those attending on behalf of a variety of institutions were Sergio Matos, mayor of Santa Cruz de La Palma; president of the Cabildo Insular (island council) of La Palma Anselmo Pestana; Abel Morales, deputy minister of the primary sector of the Canary Islands Government; deputy minister of the Canarian executive of Infrastructure and Transport Onán Cruz, and president of Asprocan Domingo Martín.
Until now Canary Island plantain cargo has been distributed from the island of La Palma to the north of Spain by other transport modes. Boluda Lines is recovering a historic port stop in the sea distribution of the institutional brand under which plantains grown in the Canary Islands are marketed, which is managed by the Canary Islands plantain producers’ association (Asprocan).

In line with its Corporate Social Responsibility policy, Boluda Lines not only helps save time and energy in Canarian plantain transport by using a more environmentally-friendly mode than land transport, but also boosts channels of productivity in the Canarian agricultural sector.
With this new additional stop the Canarian plantain shipment that sails on Sundays from the port of Santa Cruz de La Palma will arrive at Boluda Maritime Terminal in Vilagarcía de Arousa on Wednesdays, at the port of Bilbao on Thursdays, and on Mondays at the port of Lisbon.
Boluda Lines currently transports Canarian plantain via the Mediterranean Line 1, a route which ships goods from the Canary Islands calling at Alicante on Tuesdays and Barcelona on Thursdays. With the addition of Canarian plantain transport on the North Line, Boluda Lines will help distribute the fruit through two different routes, thus consolidating the productivity of the Islands’ most important crop.
