This is the second in a series of ten tugs that the Basque shipyard Zamakona is building for Boluda Towage and Salvage

Rafael Rodríguez, general manager of Marina Mercante, visited Zamakona Yards in Pasajes on tuesday 24 january for the sea trials of the “VB Xerea” tugboat, second in a series of ten that Zamakona is constructing for Boluda Towage and Salvage.

The “VB Xerea” successfully completed tests of power, speed, maneuverability, performance and electronic systems.

The sea trials confirmed the high performance of this tug series, with an increased bollard pull of up to 80 tons due to propellers that guarantee maximum power without mechanical loss. Also verified is its excellent maneuverability both in port and at sea, with a noticeably improved control station. Its control system has been tested for the operational adaptability of each tug to its port, reducing emissions for increased energy efficiency, in line with Boluda Corporación Marítima’s corporate social responsibility objectives.

Rodríguez was accompanied by the deputy general manager of the Merchant Navy, Jose Luis Garcia Lena, and representing Boluda Towage and Salvage were Joaquín Lozano, chairman; Antonio Bordils, managing director, and José Luis Gonzalez, general manager for Spain, all of whom embarked the “VB Xerea”.

Also present at the sea trials were Josu Bilbao, maritime captain of Pasajes, and Ángel Mato, general manager of ANARE.

The group was welcomed at Zamakona Shipyards by the chairman Pedro Garaigordobil.

Zamakona is scheduled to hand over the remaining eight tugs in the series to Boluda Towage and Salvage over the next four years.
