150 containers make up the extraordinary stage in La Luz Container Terminal.

Boluda Corporación Marítima’s La Luz Container Terminal in Las Palmas provides an exceptional setting for the 20th Festival of Theatre, Music and Dance -Temudas Fest- which this year has chosen to perform the opera “Carmen” by Bizet. .

La Luz Terminal will undergo a striking and rapid transformation to turn its industrial architecture into an original auditorium. The concert will occupy 50,000 m2 utilising 450 linear metres of mooring area. The stage will be situated below two 80m-high Post-Panamax cranes weighing 800 tonnes each, and 150 containers will be used to create a stage area with a capacity for 3,000 people. Despite this impressive technological feat the Terminal will continue at all times to provide service as usual without affecting industrial activity.

The magnificent Gran Canarian mezzo-soprano Nancy Fabiola Herrera will take the role of Carmen, accompanied by the Philharmonic Orchestra of Gran Canaria as well as adult and children’s choirs, directed for the first time by the Sevillian maestro Rodrigo Tomillo, director of the German Kaiserslautern State Opera.

This year the concert will be recorded by TVE in the Canary Islands and broadcast in full, nationwide, on channel La2 at the start of next season.

The concert will be held on 16 July at 10 pm and is organized by Las Palmas city council.
